Where has the time flown.........Thanksgiving came and went and December and the holidays are all finished. We are now in a very bad cold snap!
Now let's get down to business and see what our little ones have done the past few weeks.
Our books have been around holidays and snow. We have read Mouse Mess by Linnea Riley. We had so much fun with the mouse and eating the food that he showed us in the book. We made and ate peanut butter and jelly crackers, we played in ketchup and mustard (what a mess), we built and counted with sugar cubes, and tasted olives and pickles. However, we washed dishes, vacumned and wiped our messes and room up. We have become great cleaners.
Our next book was If You Take a Mouse to the Movies by Laura Numeroff. This is another book about a mouse decorating his holiday tree with popcorn and homemade decorations, playing outside in the snow and getting cold, and coming inside to sing those holiday tunes. Mrs. Walkley brought us in a tree and we decorated it. We also learned the vocabulary word glitter. We had glitter all over our rug and it was very pretty and festive. We loved eating popcorn and stringing it for our tree.
Our last book was The Mitten by Jan Brett. We enjoyed Niki dropping his mitten and the animals finding a home in it to stay warm. But again a mouse came in and made the bear sneeze and all the rest of the animals flew out. Grandmother was very pleased that Niki brought back his mittens but she could not understand why one mitten was bigger than the other. We had a lot of fun in getting into a mitten and flying out after sneezing first.
We have been learning our letters M, L, and X. Our writing and coloring of them are awesome. We are all printing or learning to write our names now. We are also become very good at using the ipad, the computer, and the smartboard with learning activities.
Other tasks that we have been working on is becoming independent around our school. Ms. Walkley needs our help with bringing down the attendance folder, taking the trash out with her, and going into the cafeteria and sitting with the other students while she gets our breakfast and lunch.
Finally, we are implementing a new movement program thru out the day. We are learning by movement and play with regard to our preschool standards. The chidren are running, kicking, rolling, throwing according to the book themes that we are teaching that week. As an example, we are throwing snowballs at our letters of the week or we are ice skating on paper plates to our center activities. We are having fun but learning thru PLAY!!
Please stay warm and we will talk with you again and I will be sending pictures soon.
Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
